MONTEGO BAY, St James — US Ambassador to Jamaica Luis G Moreno has pledged to work assiduously to increase US investments in Jamaica, including the resort city of Montego Bay, which he says is bursting with "opportunities and chances."
"I am very impressed and honoured to be here [Montego Bay]... and I have made a promise when I first got to Jamaica about 10 months ago that the US and Jamaica have a very strong bond and I want to make it even stronger," Moreno told the gathering at the opening ceremony of the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI) Expo 2015 at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, Rose Hall, St James, last weekend.
He told his audience -- which included members of the business sector from across western Jamaica, that Montego Bay with its strong educational institutions -- such as the University of the West Indies and the Montego Bay Community College; the Sangster International Airport, which he said is ranked among the best airports in the Caribbean and Latin America, the Montego Bay Convention Centre... is ripe for more investments.

He stressed that as ambassador, one of his main goals is to bring more investment and trade to the island, as he urged the local business community to take advantage of the opportunities that exist under the various trade agreements with the US, including the Caribbean Basin Initiative.
He warned, however, that the country's crime problem could serve as a deterrent to the growth and development of the island.
Ambassador Moreno -- who disclosed that he has visited the resort city of Montego Bay at least on eight occasions since his posting to Jamaica 10 months ago -- lauded the MBCCI for the staging of its 16th expo, which was held under the theme: 'Inspire. Create... next generation'. more
