A Jamaica House release said the Public Services Commission confirmed the appointment last week and that Dr Clarke subsequently received his instrument of appointment from Governor General Sir Patrick Harris.
Ambassador Clarke is expected to represent Jamaica’s interests with bilateral, multilateral and international partners, and to promote investment and trade.
“Dr Clarke has already been a valuable asset to Jamaica in its relationship with key international partners, as an advisor to the prime minister, and as a director on several public boards. The Government of Jamaica looks forward to his continued contribution in this capacity,” Holness said. “I am honoured by this appointment and pledge to serve Jamaica faithfully,” Dr Clarke was quoted as saying in the release.
Dr Clarke has extensive local and international business experience and began his career as a banker at Goldman Sachs, in London. He has previously served as a senator and his record of public service also includes serving as chairman of the HEART Trust and as a director of various public bodies.
