PORTLAND, Jamaica-born Lana Patterson has been named 'Broward County Mathematics Teacher of the Year 2014-2015 for Middle Schools'.

Patterson, who teaches at William Dandy Middle School in Fort Lauderdale, copped the top prize from a field of 50 aspiring nominees and was awarded on March 18. It was her second time vying for the coveted award, having been nominated in 2013-2014, the same year she won Teacher of the Year at William Dandy.
Before emigrating to the US in 1992, the St Joseph's Teachers' College alumna taught for 18 years, 14 of which were spent at her high school alma mater Titchfield High in Port Antonio.
She has since furthered her studies at Florida Atlantic University.
Patterson's sons Alton and Christopher attended the award function with their mother and helped her celebrate the win.
