(Photo: Jose Lara Aragon) PHILADELPHIA, USA — Expectations will be high among the over 50 Jamaican high schools and college teams as the 122nd staging of the Penn Relays Carnival gets under way at Franklin Field in Philadelphia in what is expected to be wet and cold conditions today. The bar has been set high as last year Jamaican high schools swept all six Championships of Americas relays they contested, with Edwin Allen girls and Calabar boys winning two each, the respective 4x100m and 4x400m; Holmwood Technical won the girls’ 4x800m, while St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) won the boys’ title. Added to that Jamaican high schools won an additional six individual titles and hopes are that they will at least match the total number of wins this year. Thanks to exposure in the recent LG G5 mobile television commercial, the song debuted at number six two weeks ago on Billboard’s Reggae Digital Singles chart. The song is currently number three on the chart. Produced by DJ Karim, it is on the Sports Day ‘riddim’. Busy Signal British actor Jason Statham stars in the LG GG ad, which was launched on April 1 in several key North American markets. Chicago’s Energy BBDO advertising agency is credited for the song’s placement.  Mainstream success is not new to Busy Signal.  04/26/2016 09:20 am ET All those years of hitting the books paid off for one accomplished high school senior.  Kelly Hyles, a senior at the selective  High School for Math, Science and Engineering at the City College of New York , was recently accepted to all eight Ivy League schools. The student, who came to the US from Guyana when she was 11 years old, told   People.com  she’s been in shock since receiving the good news.  Kelly Hyles “I was really happy. I’m still in disbelief. I am so grateful,” she said. In addition to all the Ivies, Hyles also received acceptance letters to Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Johns Hopkins University,  Today.com  reported. Wednesday, April 27, 2016   PRIME Minister Andrew Holness yesterday announced the appointment of Dr Nigel Clarke as ambassador plenipotentiary for economic affairs. Dr. Nigel Clarke A Jamaica House release said the Public Services Commission confirmed the appointment last week and that Dr Clarke subsequently received his instrument of appointment from Governor General Sir Patrick Harris. Police said that the body of the little girl, Leashay Thomas, was found early in the morning on the popular Dump Up Beach, hours after receiving a distress call from a relative of the child. Tuesday, April 26, 2016 — Renae Dixon BROWN’S TOWN, St Ann — The deaths of two sisters Sunday morning have shocked the community of Cross Road, near Keith in St Ann. The sisters — Janet ‘Frances’ James, 59, and Paulette ‘Baby Lue’ James, 57 — perished in a fire at their home believed to have been started by arsonists. The incident happened at about 5 o‘clock. Janet James, one of the sisters who perished in the fire. While the police await forensic reports to determine the cause of the fire, residents are convinced that the house was mistakenly firebombed by strange men who visited the community Sunday looking for a man who lived near the James sisters. 04/26/2016 03:36 am ET A rescue dog credited with saving at least seven people from the rubble of the  April 16 earthquake in Ecuador  has died.  Dayko After days of searching for quake survivors, Dayko  suffered heatstroke last week  which then led to a heart attack, the City of Ibarra Fire Department said on Facebook.  The organization posted pictures of the 4-year-old Labrador in tribute to his heroism in the aftermath of the magnitude 7.8 temblor,   which left at least 650 people dead :  Dayko was known for “his good sense of smell and charisma” and the “beautiful friendship” he established with his handler, Alex Yela, the department said.  Although veterinarians worked to save the dog’s life after he collapsed, they were unsuccessful in their efforts. Prime Minister Holness consoles a victims family member The deceased, all of St James addresses, have been identified as 39-year-old shopkeeper Phillip Binns of Granville; 32-year-old higgler Hansel Chambers of Summer Hill; and 23-year-old George Holder of Dumfries. Reports are that shortly before 9:00 pm on Friday, two shooters opened fire on a group of men who were at a shop operated by Holder, deep inside the market. Friday, April 22, 2016     New York, United States (AFP) — Sports figures including Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt and NBA Most Valuable Player Stephen Curry pepper Time magazine’s 2016 “100 Most Influential People” list published yesterday. US golfer Jordan Spieth, Britain’s Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton, UFC great Ronda Rousey and American swimmer Katie Ledecky also made the list. So did Indian tennis player Sania Mirza, ranked number one in the world in doubles who was praised as an inspiration to a generation of Indians in a tribute written by cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. Ziggy Marley writes on Bolt, calling him a “unifying force” in Jamaica, while ballerina Misty Copeland writes in appreciation of Golden State Warriors star Curry.  Other names with sporting links to make the list include Caitlyn Jenner — the former Olympic decathlon champion turned transgender icon.

PRINCE Has Died at 57 y-o

UPDATE: The sad answer we were all dreading to hear is that yes, Prince has died and   TMZ   has reported the news. TMZ  has reported that there has been a fatality at Prince’s estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota, but the identity of the person has not been revealed. Chief Deputy Jason Kamerud said that he would not comment on whether or not Prince was involved. The police did say they have notified the next of kin of the deceased. A tweet from music artist Zach Myers’ account claims that Prince has indeed passed away, but no other sources have confirmed the news. Read the tweet below.
