MONTEGO BAY, St James-JAMAICA: Three bodies found in burnt-out car

MONTEGO BAY, St James — The St James police have been working since yesterday morning to determine the circumstances leading to the death of three unidentified males whose charred remains were discovered in burnt-out car.
According to Senior Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, head of the St James Police Division, the police received a report about the vehicle in the Barnett Bush section of Spring Mount in the parish. Upon their arrival, the bodies of three males were discovered inside the vehicle.
Nesbeth said the men are believed to hail from the parish of Westmoreland, but stressed that they will rely on the results of forensic tests to make certain and to determine the circumstances that led to their demise.

CALAIS, Maine (AP) — A young man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, fatally injuring himself, authorities said Sunday. Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend's home in the small eastern Maine city of Calais, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. Staples, 22, of Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, he said. The firework exploded, killing Staples instantly, McCausland said. His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks on Jan. 1, 2012, authorities said. Calais is on the Canadian border near New Brunswick. HORACE HINES Observer West reporter  Thursday, July 30, 2015     MONTEGO BAY, St James — HIGGLERS across St James will now be banned from selling outside school gates come September as the parish council and police move to make these areas no-vending zone. Stalls at the gate of the Maldon High School in St James Mayor of Montego Bay Glendon Harris made the announcement yesterday: "We are to have a meeting with the vendors to remove the stalls. No vending at the school gate in the prescribed distance. We are going to be dealing with all the schools in the parish. Remember, we did Corinaldi Primary already and we did Anchovy High," Harris said. The fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Maldon High School student Romario Salmon, by a group of knife-wielding students, factored into the decision to prohibit vending at school gates.
