Skinny repeal bill fails in the Senate 49 to 51. McCain voted NO ....OBAMACARE STILL STANDS.

Senators killed the GOP’s “skinny” Obamacare repeal bill, called the Health Care Freedom Act of 2017, in a 49-51 vote early Friday morning.
The bill would have eliminated the penalty on people who decline to get insurance, thereby removing a piece of Obamacare that has long drawn conservative ire. It also would have suspended the medical device tax for three years while allowing greater contributions into Health Savings Accounts.

And the bill would have made it easier for states to get waivers from the federal government, giving them a little more leeway to redirect money that’s supposed to help people buy health insurance. The precise effect of that particular provision is a little unclear.
GOP leaders tried to assure caucus members the point of the bill was merely to push the process along ― to get the debate to the next stage, so that House and Senate leaders can negotiate and come up with a bill that’s acceptable to both chambers.
But that promise wasn’t enough for three Republican senators, including Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who cast one of the crucial no votes that doomed the bill.

 02/18/2016 02:01 am ET It's one of those Facebook posts that's all over the place, and -- like " the dress " or the  hidden panda  -- everyone seems to have a different take on it.  What is half a coconut plus one apple plus three bananas?  On the surface, it would seem the apple has a value of 10, the bananas a value of four and the coconut a value of two. And if that were the end of the story, the answer would be 2 + 10 + 4 = 16.  But in the final frame, the fruit are slightly different.  There is half a coconut, instead of two halves in the earlier example equation that establishes a value of two. And instead of the four bananas representing the value of four, there are just three bananas.  If the numbers are reduced along with the portions of fruit, you get a totally different answer: 1 + 10 + 3 = 14.   Which is the correct answer? Police: 22 y-o Devon Staples shoots off firework from top of his head, dies

CALAIS, Maine (AP) — A young man who was drinking and celebrating the Fourth of July tried to launch a firework off the top of his head, fatally injuring himself, authorities said Sunday. Devon Staples and his friends had been drinking and setting off fireworks Saturday night in the backyard of a friend's home in the small eastern Maine city of Calais, said Stephen McCausland, a spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety. Staples, 22, of Calais, placed a fireworks mortar tube on his head and set it off, he said. The firework exploded, killing Staples instantly, McCausland said. His death is the first fireworks fatality in Maine since the state legalized fireworks on Jan. 1, 2012, authorities said. Calais is on the Canadian border near New Brunswick. State fire marshals were also investigating several other Fourth of July fireworks accidents involving injuries in Friendship, Jefferson, Lebanon and Woodstock.
